Knock knock. Who is it? Your dreams!

When something that you want or something you need shows up at the ideal time, people say that the universe brought it to them with divine timing. Divine timing means believing in something happening suddenly or unexpectedly at precisely the right moment.

It was with divine timing that I received an unexpected email. The subject line caught my attention immediately. It said: “Your Dreams Delivery Date”. Now, call me sceptical but two things passed through my mind:  1) what? … all of my dreams? and 2) how?

I didn’t know whether to break into a celebratory dance or light a ceremonial candle to thank whichever deity was responsible for rounding up all of my prayers and shipping them to me ‘in as few items as possible’.

This was a strange turn of events. Not least because I wasn’t longing for anything in particular and I definitely hadn’t ordered anything from the bedroom company Dreams, I checked; so I was racking my brain for a logical solution. And that’s when I started thinking; what have I been dreaming about? Was there something deeply missing from my life that the universe could see that I needed?

I was mentally sieving through anything I might have dreamed of, either intentionally or by mistake over the years. A slim waist, a nice house, a doting husband… Strangely, I wasn’t dreaming about faster broadband or a world without taxes, but maybe if I squeezed them both onto my quickly growing list of dreams they might arrive with my mysterious delivery.

Then, with a flash of horror I remembered a childhood of xmas wish list substitutions like the Sandy doll who looked absolutely nothing like Cindy or the ‘Now That’s What I Call Music’ CD when Santa had been given very specific instructions about my love of Gangster Rap. What if the universe was making substitutions? What if I wasn’t in control of my dreams as much as I thought I was? What exactly was being delivered and what would happen if I was out and my dreams got delivered to my next-door neighbour!

“Hello. Parcel for you from the universe. It’s all of your dreams.”

But what if there was some truth to all this? What if the universe really could deliver people’s dreams and let them know by email? Would you place an order?

According to the most popular spiritual teachers of our time, the universe operates within the laws of attraction and a delivery of dreams is entirely possible. You just have to know how to go about it. Just like Glinda, the good witch says to Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, “you had the power all along”; so why aren’t more people aware of it? And how can we dream responsibly on the off chance that the universe is listening?

Have you read The Secret?…

More than 30 million people worldwide bought Rhonda Byrne’s book, The Secret. It’s estimated that a much higher number of people actually read it and the book was made into a movie in 2006. It’s based on the belief that our thoughts are like magnets, attracting positive or negative outcomes into our lives according to what we are thinking.

Byrne says “the first step is to let the Universe know what you want. Step two is to claim the things you want by feeling and believing they are already yours i.e. visualise your wish coming true. When you do that, the law of attraction will powerfully move all circumstances, people, and events for you to receive,”. Easy, right?

Dr Joe Dispenza, a popular author and neuroscientist says that a few simple things about manifesting and the law of attraction were left out of ‘The Secret’. His theory suggests that positive thinking by itself isn’t easy when we factor in childhood experiences, past relationships and the pressure of everyday life. His solution… rewire our brains to think positively by intentionally learning how to invite what we need towards us i.e. a joyful and happy life, by unlearning everything negative that the brain is consciously and subconsciously holding onto which blocks any positive outcomes from becoming reality.

Is the Universe really listening?

Gregg Braden, scientist and author of 22 books that explain the link between science and spirituality, takes dream delivery a step further with his formula for abundance and bliss that he says is inside every living being. It’s based on his work in electromagnetic fields. Braden says: “our thoughts are important, but thoughts alone don’t create reality. The electromagnetic fields inside the brain are relatively weak compared to those within the heart, which is 100 times stronger electrically than the human brain and about 5,000 times stronger magnetically. Thoughts are just empty daydreams unless we pump some energy into them from the heart. The law of attraction is an intelligent field of energy that responds to what we believe in by serving it up to us as our reality. We have already blocked our ability to manifest joy if we believe, on any level, that we are unworthy or undeserving. By learning to believe and feel what we desire as if it has already happened, we can change the electrical and magnetic field around us, and reality will reflect back whatever it was that we felt”.

Braden says that science is only just catching up with modern theories about belief and reality that 5,000-year-old texts described centuries ago. Unless we can stop feeling what we don’t have, and what we don’t want, we will be unable to manifest what we truly desire.

Socrates said that “the secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new”. Whatever it is that we are dreaming about, the universe is going to make it bigger and better and more rewarding than we ever imagined. So don’t stop dreaming. If the experts are right, we should add as much positive thinking into our busy, stressful lives as we can, and if possible, work on feeling the difference between the hope of something happening and what it would feel like if it actually happened.

For me, I can’t ignore the nudge that I was given in this direction. I’m going to spend a few minutes when I wake up in the morning thinking about what I’m grateful for and what I can do to make some positive changes in my life that day. It will be a great exercise to focus on when I’m trying to fall asleep too. I will also be making a new and more concise list of my dreams and if I don’t like what arrives I will be looking into my dreams returns policy so I can return to sender.
